EXTREMELY CAPTIVATING

I had to force myself to go to sleep the first night I started reading. What an amazing book and very descriptive; it was as if I was watching everything happen as I read each word. I agree with Sotera – Auggie is my favorite character too. I have to say the prologue is probably one of the BEST I have read; I loved being able to make the connections throughout the chapters – several “ah-ha” moments. This book has it all. At parts I was on the edge of my seat gripping the Kindle a little too tight, others made me smile, and then there were those out-loud laughter parts. I too can’t wait for the second book and hope it doesn’t stop there, but more than anything I want this book published so I can hold it in my hands and get lost within its pages. Mr. Perry Covington, my dear fellow, you are BLOODY BRILLIANT!!!

New player in the game

The young adult action/adventure genre definitely has a new player in the game. Child of Atlantis and the lead character Maximus Hunter definitely give the Harry Potters, Percy Jacksons, those Kane siblings, and Katniss Everdeens a run for their money in like ability, heroism, and tenacity. Child of Atlantis is a good blend of Indiana Jones and Star Wars for the modern era. Even for someone in their mid 30s there is plenty to like about this book. Eagerly anticipating the follow up.

A standout book in a crowded genre

What an incredible first entry for a new author. Prepare to be totally engulfed, and sleep deprived, because this book takes off from the first page and never looks back. The content is ripe with back story and history to bring the reader up to speed, but it never gets in the way of the stories pacing. And though it is a quick and "easy" read it is not because of lack of character development, description of environment, or cohesiveness. Young Adult Fiction is already a busy genre. If you throw Sci-Fi / Fantasy into the description, you'll find an obnoxious amount of the same overdone plot, same overdone characters, and same overdone dumbed down writing for an under appreciated target audience. This book is truly a breath of fresh air and is primed to be a series that will captivate a generation. Pick it up and prepare to not put it down.
