This Book by Michael Poynder is very deep and obviously the product of many years of study and research. In parts, it is very difficult to take in all the information given and needs to be read thoughtfully and thoroughly to get the best from it.
Once digested, Michael Poynder gives us a new way to look at the world we live in and shows us how our ancestors were able to work with the natural forces coursing through the planet.
The geometry and graphics are fascinating and this book should be read by all who search for the inner meaning of life in the world around us and the artefacts left for us by ancient man.

Very interesting, hard to swallow

I found this book very interesting and loaded with information - but I couldn't take it all in one sitting, and I had to suspend my disbelief to take it all in.
If you have an interest in ancient pre-Celt and early Celt history, energy fields of the Earth, and some eye-opening theories by someone who has personally researched a field deeply (and literally, in the fields)- then this is for you.
If you are into debunking, this will also give you grist for the mill, however.
I only recommend this book for those with an openness to alternate views of physics/metaphysics.

living the dream!

My daughter insisted we visit Ghana during her six month stay at university in Accra. Number one activity in this magical land was a trip to this green turtle place. A broken down bus, a tro-tro ride to a small, beat up taxi, found us in a small town with no electricity, with what I thought surely was a riot with hundreds of people banging on the taxi roof; just the whole town watching Chelsea and Barcelona on the town's only tv. Then the mud,the road,we are so late.... Parodise,the perfect beach. This book not only brought it all back, but motivates you to great things and, why not!

A little gem!

Having lived in Ghana (and married a Ghanaian) I am always on the look out to read anything remotely related to Ghana. However, what took me by surprise was how well written and - like a piece of kente - how carefully woven the narrative. The descriptions were accurate and transported me to Ghana all over again (the malaria description was perfect!). Alas I never made it to Green Turtle while I was in Ghana, but now I feel like I've been there. As a mother of a two year old, I don't get to read much, but I finished this in a week flat; I was enthralled!

Great Story of How Hard Following Your Dreams Can Be and Why You Should

What a great book! Not only is Tom and Jo's story a great insight into following your dreams and how difficult that can be, it took me back to the 2007, when I lived Takoradi, Ghana for a year. I came from Canada and it was my first experience in West Africa -- and the book captures that perfectly. From dining at the White Bell in Accra to shopping in Market Circle in T'adi and always being reminded that you're an Obruni... Boy did these pages bring back the memories!

I stayed at the Green Turtle Lodge three times during that year -- and each time was such a welcome break. Thanks for such a great read... and best of luck in your next adventures!

Great CD, Okay content!

It was nice to get this entire book on 1 disk. The quality of the mp3 files is not a problem at all (I was worried it'd be a low bit rate). I have owned the physical book as well and wanted to revisit it in an audio cd format. I used to love the book but now I am 50/50. Maybe now I just like the book.

For one, he recommends drinking wine. Alcohol is toxic, period. Alcohol is also addictive, and consumption in moderation can easily lead to excess. I do not like the fact that Restak recommends alcohol, regardless of the form, one bit.

Another problem I have with his book is that he recommends almost unlimited eating of tuna and other fish which may have heavy metal contamination! I was a regular tuna eater, I ate it at least 4 meals a week. After about 4 months I started to have symptoms of heavy metal poisoning. Some of these symptoms effect cognitive function, so I am VERY surprised that he would recommend this kind of diet. I stopped eating tuna and the symptoms went away. I have replaced it with salmon which does not have the mercury content of tuna, and you still get cognitive benefits. :D

Aside from the utterly miserable dietary advice, there are a few other small problems with the book that I wont go into, because in the end it does not matter. Why does it not matter? Because whether I like the book or not, I will keep it because there are very few works such as this that cover such a wide amount of information about improving the brain.

So in short I like it, but I don't love it. If I lost it, I'd probably buy another copy but it wouldn't be high on my priority list as long as I owned a copy of Brain Rules.

ThinkSmart = a Brilliant Piece of Work

Immediately upon receiving this book, I read the text on the back cover. My already high level of interest was elevated further. Without delay, I popped my reading glasses in place and proceeded to read "Think Smart" non-stop from cover-to-Cover. The author's presentation of his prescription "for Improving Your Brain's Performance" was nothing short of Brilliant.
After my first reading I searched the Internet in hopes of finding "Think Smart" as an AudioBook. My search was rewarded with the discovery of an unabridged, beautifully narrated version of the whole book, which I have listened to while re-reading the complete text of the book.
The Audio Version is now on my MP3 player, and I review a chapter or two every day. My local public library has several of Dr. Richard Restak's books in its catalog.
I am a 73-year-old retiree and I have no problem understanding the neuroscience as presented by this gifted writer and scientist.
I agree with Scientific American Magazine, Dr Restak is "one of the world's most important scientific thinkers. I am convinced that the exercises in his prescription can help anyone ward-off the threat of dementia and Alzheimers.

Interesting ideas and some data presented but became redundant and predictable (could have been 100 pages shorter)

THe book was interesting - particularly the first part of the book about the interrelatedness of our physical health, emotional health, etc., and brain function. However, much of what was in the book was stuff I'd heard before in the popular press or in news (if you read science and health news at all). Not a lot of surprise.

It was good to hear that even getting started late or making changes late in life is not TOO late. Some suprising findings that I wasn't aware of with regards to electronic game playing and older adults.

But, all in all, just an okay book.

A good read for those interested in the Armenian Genocide.

It was a good take on the genocide. Quite a difficult read as English is not the writer's first language. It was biased but so it should be. Well worth the read if you are interested in the topic and Turkish history and current affairs.
